Elementary students across the district participated in the districtwide science fair.
Two teams of three judges consisting of district coordinators were chosen to judge kindergarten through second-grade and third through fifth-grade. Each team traveled to each campus to judge the campus winning projects.
A rubric was used and listed a series of expectations that add up to 80 points. The three highest scores for each grade level earned the first, second, and third places. All projects also had the potential to earn a commended score if they earned 65 or more points. Those projects were honored as well.
“Food was the favored topic for many of the projects,” said Elementary Science Coordinator Barbara Mikulecky. “Who can blame a kiddo for wanting to use French fries, M&M’s, apples, and milk when they are readily available.”
She continued, “However, I would say one project that stood out took on the advanced ideas of comparing solar versus wind power. Another student used their backyard to compare moss growth.”
