Waxahachie ISD Trustees approve 2020-21 academic calendar

2020-2021 academic calendar

The Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees passed the 2020-21 academic calendar during a special meeting on Monday, July 27, 2020.

The Board came to a decision after it reviewed valuable feedback from employees and community members.

The 2020-21 academic calendar will include 10 additional instructional minutes to the end of each school day. The minimum required minutes of instruction for the state is 75,600 minutes. The additional minutes (plus additional minutes gain by starting school four days early, as well as surplus minutes already built into the calendar) will total 5,190 minutes, equating to 11.2 days.

Additional minutes and days of instruction will help meet state requirements should the district or a campus need to close due to a Coronavirus outbreak.

  • Start of School - Monday, August 17

The first day of school is Monday, August 17.  Teachers will still report back Monday, August 10.

Even though 10 instructional minutes will be added to each school day, the regularly scheduled workday for teachers will not be extended.

Waxahachie ISD School Hours:

Prekindergarten: 7:40 a.m. — 2:55 p.m.

Elementary Campuses: 7:40 a.m. — 3:20 p.m.

Secondary Campuses: 8:25 a.m. — 4:05 p.m.

“The Board has worked tirelessly to review feedback and implement a calendar that prepares the district for a worst-case scenario,” said Waxahachie ISD Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain. “With the amended schedule, the number of required instructional hours are met. We appreciate the patience of our families and employees.”

The Board also approved to authorize the expenditure of up to $300,000 to purchase additional technological devices.
